The Cave of Didyma - Ermionida - Greece

...(Πηγή : ermionida.info)

On the slope of the mountain, northwest of the village of Didyma ,on the Argolis peninsula, at Peloponnese Greece, one can admire a huge depression of the ground which is called Megali Spilia (The Big Cave) by the local people. A smaller one which is not visible is Mikri Spilia (the Small Cave). Both of them were created after a landslide.
According to the archaeological finds Megali Spilia was inhabited during the late neolithic era.

One can visit the church of Agios Demetrios of the 11th century A.D. Also, the church of Agios Giorgios of the 13th century and the country church of Metamorfossi tou Sotira (Transfiguration of the Saviour ) in Mikri Spilia.
During the Hellenic War of Independence in 1821 , according to the legent, Dimitsanites carried nitre from Megali Spilia for making gun powder.

The peculiar shape of the Cave can impress the visitor and kindle the imagination of the tourist.... (Source : ermionida.info)

That's really something. I'm guessing somewhere along the way a meteor came and created it. Very interesting info you provided...

That looks like a very large cave. I would love to see what is inside. Most likely some bats have taken up residence.

Amazing! That is too large a depression to comprehend. Where did all the earth go? Amazing.

Beautiful photos, Vaggelis and to me they remind me of many things. I looked at the photos and thought of something white to eat that has been sprinkled with black pepper.

Your photography is very good, as usual and I admire your work.

What a huge hole in the earth. I'd love to visit those caves and churches.
Megali Spilia! Like Spelunking, speleology, speleological and speleologist. Now I get it! I should have known those interesting words would be Greek in origin.
